Nychair X is the award-winning and world-renowned armchair, produced in Japan and designed by the Japanese Takeshi Nii back in 1970. Nii wanted to create a chair that should be "like a curry rice that everyone loves". That is, a chair that is reasonably priced, relaxing to sit in and usable in many places. And its shape should allow the user to relax completely.
The Nystolen is inspired by traditional instructor chairs and similar fabric chairs from Denmark. The chair is named after the designer's family name - Ni, as well as the Danish word for "ny" (new).
The folding chair is certainly reminiscent of the lightness and simplicity of the director's chair, but the curved frame and modern silhouette make the NyChair X a distinctly contemporary piece - rooted in Japanese living environments. The fabric seat has an inviting, hammock-like effect with high comfort and its portability makes it a versatile option for extra seating - and easy to store when not in use.
Nychair X has a removable cover that is made of very strong Kurashiki sailcloth, which is long lasting and does not produce static electricity. The sailcloth is made from natural materials at the same factory in Japan since 1888.
The folding chair and the matching footstool can be purchased in white here in the webshop. In the design shop at the museum, you have the opportunity to try the chair, where it is available with orange textile.
