Large, smooth woven cotton towel, designed in France by the brand, By Foutas, and woven in Tunisia from recycled cotton yarn from surplus production at international clothing brands. The towel, the so-called fouta, is woven with ancestral know-how in a Tunisian family cooperative and the foutas have existed in Tunisian hammams for centuries. The fringes themselves are hand-knotted by local artisans who work from their homes and thus help support their families.
The traditional fouta is seen today as an alternative to more traditional bath and beach towels. Fouta is deliberately woven relatively thin: it takes up little space, dries quickly and has a reputation for preventing sand from sticking.
