Ripple – a box in concrete, designed and produced by the resident, Turkish designer, Derya Arpac (b. 1988) in his own workshop at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. Arpac works experimentally with different materials, including glass, wood and stone - and also concrete, because "it is an interesting material in the way that you can only control it to a certain extent. The hardening of the concrete is affected by e.g. humidity and temperature and therefore each box has its own unique expression".
Derya Arpac is educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and her designs are typically robust and characterized by a certain weight. The chest is hand-cast in colored concrete and the series has received international attention and is featured in a number of design magazines: Sight Unseen, Wallpaper, Nytt Rom and RUM.
