The Bendy Bench - which you may have seen at Louisiana's exhibition, Det Uerstattelge Menneske - was designed and crafted by the Copenhagen architectural studio, Standard Practice, and exemplifies the design studio's playful, original and technically daring approach to design and production. Established in 2021 by Hugh Diamond and Henry Gibbon, Standard Practice brings a new perspective to furniture design. Their approach, rooted in a deep understanding of materials and craftsmanship, is evident in the Bendy Bench. Each piece is carefully crafted in their Copenhagen workshop, ensuring a personal touch in every curve and connection.
Bendy is built from European pine plywood, bent from a flat plane into an ergonomic and sculptural piece of furniture. The bench is made from a single sheet of plywood per bench and thus reduces material consumption.
Bendy Bench is carefully hand-treated with wax oil, which gives the wood a soft touch and a particularly shiny glossy surface. This finish gives the bench a durable layer that protects the bench from wear and enhances its natural beauty over time.
