Bowl – UNIKA large

Bowl, Unique, by the Danish ceramicist Karin Blach. In her work, Anne Blach is drawn to an aesthetic where color nuances, tactility, and contrasts are central elements.

Anne Blach was trained as a ceramicist at the Design School Kolding and the Royal College of Art, London. She now lives and works in Copenhagen, where she has had her studio since 2000. In her work with ceramics, the intimacy and atmosphere surrounding everyday objects have always fascinated Anne Blach. The starting point for her ceramics is almost always the aesthetic and visual expression.

She works in series of wheel-thrown stoneware with the simple aim of exploring the colors and material qualities of the clay, and of showcasing the clay’s changeable character through varying forms and clay types. All of Anne Blach’s stoneware is hand-thrown, and using the potter’s wheel as a traditional tool, she is less focused on developing new forms and more fascinated by the throwing process itself – a kind of exploration of classic styles and archetypal forms that are naturally suited to the wheel.
