The lunch plate, Replated , from the Danish ceramicist Birgit Marie Studio. The plate is glazed with Birgit Marie's specially developed glazes, which primarily consist of materials collected in nature or residual products from industry, which makes it possible to reuse white plates from thrift stores and give them new life.
Glazing pottery that has already been glaze fired is usually a challenge and results can vary widely. After many trials, however, Birgit Marie Østerby has found a method that makes it possible to give mass-produced plates a new glaze. In this way, the white plates, which are often piled up in thrift stores, can be given new life.
Behind the studio stands Birgit Marie Østerby, who is finishing her education at the Royal Academy, where she has immersed herself in transforming simple materials into small pockets of time filled with stories. Previously, she also explored the art world at Aarhus Art Academy and shared her passion as a ceramics teacher at Ry Højskole.
Her ceramic adventure begins with a fascination with the materials she uses. Each work is created with great respect for the materials used – clay, granite and recycled glass – which carry their own history with them.
Birgit Marie has recently moved to Ry in the beautiful Søhøjland with my small family and is ready to explore new opportunities and share my ceramic adventures.
Each plate is unique and therefore the colors may vary.
