Calder in Motion. The Shirley Family Collection

The book, Calder in Motion. The Shirley Family Collection, includes more than forty-five works of art representing every decade of artist Alexander Calder's career. Including examples of his wire sculptures, hanging mobiles, and stationary stabiles dating from the 1920s to the 1970s.

Alexander Calder (1898-1976) was an American artist, best known for his invention of kinetic sculpture, which he called "mobiles". Calder is also known for his "stabiles", which are stationary sculptures. He is one of the most influential and innovative artists of the 20th century and contributed significantly to the development of modern sculpture.
