Calder in Motion. The Shirley Family Collection

The book, Calder in Motion. The Shirley Family Collection, includes more than forty-five works of art representing every decade of artist Alexander Calder's career. Including examples of his wire sculptures, hanging mobiles and stationary stables dating from the 1920s to the 1970s.

Alexander Calder (1898-1976) was an American artist, best known for his invention of the kinetic sculpture he called "mobiles". Calder is also known for his "stabiles", which are stationary sculptures. He is one of the 20th century's most influential and innovative artists and contributed significantly to the development of modern sculpture.
