My Window Pocket Edition

David Hockney, My Window , here in a pocket edition, presents 120 digital paintings created on iPhone and iPad. The works provide an insight into Hockney's daily observations from the window of his Yorkshire home, capturing moments that together express the passage of time as seen through his gaze.

Hockney began experimenting with the iPhone as an artistic tool in the spring of 2009 and quickly discovered the new possibilities the technology offered him. With easy access, he could paint directly on the screen, often immediately after waking up, and reproduce the morning's impressions in vivid colors and simple strokes. In 2010, he took up the iPad, and the larger screen made room for even more detailed and nuanced works, with a play of light, line, and color.
