Exclusive bowl in ash wood from the Danish, award-winning design brand, Egeværk, by the furniture designers Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen, who have exhibited their Nordic-toned and nature-inspired works all over the world. The Egeværk bowl here is created from leftover wood from the Egeværk Studio and is processed into a silky smooth surface. For every bowl sold, the brand plants a new tree in a Danish forest.

Each Egeværk work is created in a long process, while a "friendly dispute" takes place between the two cabinetmakers. Inspiration from nature is first implemented through joint sketching. Initial ideas are further developed by exploring the unique beauty of a given piece of wood.

Mette Bentzen is the primary decision maker at the beginning of the tangible process of creating the work. Bentzen has extensive knowledge of the properties of different types of wood and ensures that the construction of the piece supports the creative vision behind the piece. Every fiber of the wood is considered before a plank is cut into smaller pieces and then carefully assembled. Lasse Kristensen does most of the hand shaping.

Although the process proceeds in a linear fashion from inspiration to sketching to construction to hand shaping, both makers agree that the real magic doesn't happen if they don't let the wood help shape the finished piece. They also agree that although they sometimes argue amicably in the process, they always speak nicely to the tree.

Lasse Kristensen and Mette Bentzen are both educated at the reputable PP Furniture; a Danish joinery, since 1953 famous for its large portfolio of modern Danish furniture. The years at PP Furniture made Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen experts in the renowned Wegner pieces - accompanied by silver medals.

After graduation, Lasse Kristensen won the Danish as well as the Nordic championship in carpentry; later he represented Denmark at the WC in Japan. In connection with the WC, Lasse received the Mærsk grant and the Poul & Gurli Madsens grant. They supported Lasse Kristensen on his travels and with studies in Japan at Hinoki Kogei with Tadanori Tozawa.

Mette Bentzen chose cabinetmaking after studying at the Copenhagen Art School and left a successful career as a multimedia designer for her apprenticeship at PP Furniture. It was a three-year voyage around the world that drew her to the world of fine woodwork.

As a duo, Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen have been awarded the Tømrerprisen, Danish Design Awards (Best Craftsmanship) and other honours.
