Exhibition poster with the work, Nuka and his uncle, (2017), by the Chinese artist, Liu Xiaodong, (b. 1963), from Louisiana's exhibition in 2009. In 2019, Louisiana showed a condensed, smaller exhibition of paintings and drawings by one of China's greatest contemporary artists, Liu Xiaodong. His intense and often very large paintings masterfully depict people and destinies who often live on the outskirts of our modern, globalized world.

At Louisiana's exhibition, it was Liu Xiaodong's stay in Uummannaq, Greenland, that was the focal point, not least his meeting with the both cool and vulnerable children in the settlement's orphanage - the northernmost of its kind in the world.
Nuka and his Uncle, 2017, is one of the large paintings in this series, depicting the children's conditions against the backdrop of both a threatened hunter culture and the magnificent Greenlandic culture.
