Table lamp, CHO , from the Danish design brand Motarasu. The lamp is the result of a study of the shapes that occur when you add pressure to an oval piece of paper. The CHO lamp has been nominated for the Design Awards 2024 in the "Lamp of the Year" category.
CHO is a sculptural lamp that invites personal interpretation and changes character depending on the viewer's point of view. The lamp's name means butterfly in Japanese, reflecting the way the shape speaks to the designers. The lamp's semi-matte, translucent shade gives CHO a diffused and calm light.
Motarasu was founded in 2019 by Mikkel Zebitz. Zebitz is inspired by Japanese design and aesthetics. But where classic Danish designers, as well as contemporary designers, have largely let Japan serve as inspiration, Zebitz wanted to change this: "Motarasu" means "to change" in Japanese - by uniting the designers of the two nations to create modern design together. Art and nature are the key elements in designs from Motarasu, who work from the showroom in Frederiksgade in Copenhagen.
