A visual biography of Aino and Alvar Aalto, who designed some of the most iconic objects and buildings of the twentieth century. In the book, you get a personal and intimate insight into their unconventional life.
Through letters, documents, drawings and family photographs, Alvar and Aino's grandson tells the stories of their life together, in Finland and abroad. The narrative draws on many of the letters they sent to each other and to family, friends and colleagues until Aino's death in 1949 – an archive of personal material that has not been published before.
The book is the first monograph that specifically examines and celebrates the life and work of Aino and Alvar. Together they founded the Finnish design brand Artek.
The personal and intimate insight into their unconventional life is warm and accessible written by Aino and Alvar's grandson.
