The exclusive Japanese Sen table lamp is an impressive construction made of almost 600 pieces of bamboo. The lamp is handmade for the Danish brand, Motarasu, by the Japanese artist, Tani Toshiyuki, together with a number of bamboo masters. Sen means lines in Japanese, and the name of the lamp is inspired by the shadows that the many pieces of bamboo create in the light from the lamp . Available online only.
___
By using the traditional Japanese construction art of Takeensuji - a technique traditionally used to make insect cages and paper lanterns - the lamp builds on tradition while adding a modern look and usability.
Motarasu was founded in 2019 by Mikkel Zebitz. Zebitz is inspired by Japanese design and aesthetics. But while classic Danish designers, as well as contemporary designers, have largely relied on Japan for inspiration, Zebitz wanted to change this and collaborate directly with Japanese designers: "Motarasu" means "to change" in Japanese.
Elements and inspiration from art and nature are key elements in designs from Motarasu, who work from the showroom on Frederiksgade in Copenhagen.
