Exhibition poster with the work, Detail of Aurora , (1973), by the French artist, Jean Dewasne (1921-1999). In 1974, Louisiana exhibited works by Dewasne, who in the 1940s was one of the most consistent developers of geometric-nonfigurative painting.
___
Jean Dewasne was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris in both architecture and painting and produced both paintings and monumental decorations. In the 1950s, Dewasne helped develop non-figurative, concrete painting in Constructivism.
Two years after Louisiana presented the artist in Humlebæk, Dewasne was back in Denmark: The former GORI factory in Kolding had sent for him to decorate their new factory. Unfortunately, the factory burned down in 1978, but since both management and employees were very satisfied with Dewasne's previous decoration, he became relevant again the following year, when the new factory building was ready.
Dewasne thus developed a very special bond with Denmark and the artistic environment surrounding the artists Robert Jacobsen, Ib Geertsen and his close friend Richard Mortensen.
