Cushion – Indian floral print

Cushion in Gudme Leth's Indian floral pattern. The pattern Flowers of India from 1945 marks one of the highlights of Marie Gudme Leth's work with oriental inspiration. With its rich shapes and colors, the design draws on Indian craft traditions and the European cotton fabrics that were imported from Asia as far back as the 17th century. The result is a pattern that balances both rhythm and ornamentation in a composition that still appears modern and vibrant.

The motif is built up of decorative “wooden patterns”, inspired by fragments from Indian textile art, and the color scale is both bold and harmonious – with tones of pink, lime, light blue and brown. The composition covers the entire width of the fabric and moves diagonally and dynamically across the fabric.

The pattern was a breakthrough and stands as a strong example of how Gudme Leth managed to unite global inspiration with Nordic aesthetics and technical prowess.

The cushion cover measures 50 x 50 cm with a print on the front and a solid-colored back. A down cushion is included. The textile is hand-printed at Frösö Handtryck in Northern Sweden, and since the motif is hand-printed, individual prints may vary.
