Louise Bourgeois – Spider Couple

Louise Bourgeois is known for her large spider sculptures, and perceived the spider as a caring and protective creature.

Louise Bourgeois told stories about her life through her art until she was 98. She drew, wove, and sculpted, inspired by her experiences, often using everyday objects that reminded her of her family and her past. The spider was a tribute to Bourgeois' mother - she was thoughtful, wise, patient, subtle, and orderly like a spider.
