Exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition Tracey Emin: A Second Life. Tracey Emin (b. 1963) is known for her personal and direct artistic expression, where her own experiences, feelings, and events form the starting point for her works. Throughout her career, she has achieved international recognition and is today considered one of the most prominent artists of our time.
Through painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, film, and installation, the exhibition Tracey Emin: A Second Life – which is created in close collaboration with the artist and includes works never before shown – presents the entire story of and with Tracey Emin. A life of rape, abortion, and very serious illness – a life in pictures, driven by creative power in spite of everything, by courage and struggle, despair and joy.
Here, nearly 40 years of pioneering practice are unfolded, pointing to how Tracey Emin constantly challenges boundaries and uses the female body as a powerful tool to explore passion, trauma, pain, and healing.
The exhibition also focuses on Tracey Emin's lifelong commitment to painting and shows a series of her most recent works – a preliminary culmination of the countless ways in which she has managed to channel her life into her art.
