Lucian Freud – Drawing into Painting
Choose options
Exhibition catalogue published in connection with Louisiana's major summer exhibition 'Everything is Portrait' (June 11, 2026) featuring one of the 20th century's greatest figurative artists – Lucian Freud. The catalogue contains conversations with David Dawson, Freud's former studio manager and now director of the Lucian Freud Archive, as well as Bella Freud, the artist's daughter. In addition, the catalogue also includes essays by author and curator Catherine Lampert, curator at the British Museum Isabel Seligman, and the acclaimed author Colm Tóibín.
The exhibition focuses on his lifelong preoccupation with the human face and figure. Exploring the artist's supreme mastery of drawing in all its forms – from pencil, pen, and ink to charcoal and etching on paper – the show also highlights the special dialogue between Freud's drawings and his painting.
A carefully selected group of important paintings reveals the dynamic relationship between his work on paper and on canvas. Together with archival research and previously unseen material, Lucian Freud – All Is Portrait will also include works that are being shown publicly for the first time.
