About Røros Tweed

Røros Tweed is a continuation of Hiorts Stiftelses Husflidsvirksomhed (Hiort's Foundation's Home Industry). It began with weaving courses in 1938, where textiles were produced in people's private homes. Later, machinery was invested in, and the factory's production is now concentrated on textiles made of 100% pure new wool – with designs often inspired by the cultural heritage and the fascinating high mountain nature of Røros.

Peder Hiort, who was director of Røros Copper Works in the 18th century, bequeathed his entire fortune to the poor in Røros – a will described as one of the wisest donations in the Nordic countries, as it showed exceptional foresight and social responsibility that is still relevant today.
