Used Hardware

The book Used Hardware intertwines two photo series of IBM's former headquarters in Lundtofte, designed by Danish architect Jørgen Bo. The first series, taken in the late 1970s by the internationally renowned photographer Keld Helmer-Petersen, shows the newly constructed buildings and the surrounding landscape with small hedges and newly planted trees. The second series, from early 2021 by Martin Ransby, documents the same buildings, now empty, worn, and with wild, tall trees.
A Visual Dialogue Across Time
Together, the series create a visual dialogue across time and perspective, where Helmer-Petersen has free access as an architectural photographer, while Ransby moves outside the permitted areas. The encounter between the two positions opens up new experiences and meanings between the book's pages. The photographs are supplemented by texts by architectural historian Jannie Rosenberg Bendsen and artist Jonas Georg Christensen.
